Tracer - The Plug, Sheffield 28.04.12
On the outside it’s dreary, miserable evening; but inside the plainly bricked Plug Australian trio Tracer are enthralling a crowd with their own brand of rock. A mix up of ‘stoner’ rock with some 70’s grooves thrown in, tonight is Tracer’s first sold out gig in the UK, it doesn’t take long to see why.
First up were locals LittleCrazy and despite their aim to warm the crowd up, they weren’t quite...

Silverjet - Sheffield Corporation, 21/04/2012
Local heroes, Silverjet, are Sheffield’s finest band. They don’t get the credit they deserve. Sure, they have the comfortable option of supporting other, larger bands on their tours or playing decent hometown gigs, but their music should be entertaining a larger mass.
Tonight’s line-up is full of bands offering rock from the school of old and the crowd, small at number but...

Placebo - Liverpool Olympia, 26.04.12
The Placebo effect is one that has always meant the band either have a completely devoted fanbase or that they are furiously hated, there’s never really been an in between. Well tonight, they are back in Liverpool at the Olympia theatre for one of two warm up shows before they head to the Sundance festival in London.
Playing to a sold out crowd, Brian Molko spots what he calls “a few...

Jack White - Blunderbuss
Blunderbuss: the name of a short musket used to scatter bullets at close range or a term used to describe clumsy people. Will Jack White’s debut solo album hit the target or fall short? There’s only one way to find out!

Crazy Lixx - Riot Avenue
Part of the recent wave of Scandinavian glam metal, Crazy Lixx have returned with their own brand of sharp edged rock in the form of their 3rd album Riot Avenue.
Whisky Tango Foxtrot gets the album off to a somewhat underwhelming start, it lacks that hard hitting energy associated with the group. Young Blood raises the bar and features some excellent guitar work from Andy Dawson. Vocalist Danny...

The Dandy Warhols are back with their 8th studio album This Machine and it may be their darkest yet. Bringing together all the elements of its predecessors, it creates a unique listening experience, one slightly more sophisticated than before.

The Jim Jones Revue - York Fibbers, 20.04.12
On the outskirts of central York lies Fibbers, crammed in underneath a Job Centre, the Duchess venue and a bunch of old flats. The loudest band in the history (and perhaps future) of rock’n’roll was in town - The Jim Jones Revue.
The night’s support was …And the Hangnails, a noisy rock duo of guitar and drums (seems a more common set-up for bands recently), and Welsh surf-rock group Y Niwl (“The...

The Dandy Warhols - Academy 2, Manchester...
The Dandy Warhols are one of those bands that people sadly often overlook. They fall under that category where they have one massive hit that everyone knows them for, but then fall under the radar of the mainstream. Some may say this is a good thing, some bad, but whatever you think they still continue to produce their perfect breed of alt indie pop. Back with their new album This Machine released...

New Soundgarden track on free Download
Following an influx of festival dates after their reunion in 2010, Soundgarden have contributed a track to the upcoming Avengers film soundtrack and have made it eligible for free download. Receiving a mixed review from fans, it isn’t quite up to the usual standard we associate with the group, but I think we can forgive them for being a little rusty!
Download the track here. The band are...

Introducing...Johnny Get The Gun!
With influences ranging from the classic sounds of The Beatles to the modern edges of indie from the Arctic Monkeys; Johhny Get The Gun mix the two so they compliment each other excellently. Their sound is built from dominant guitars and pounding drums but they still manage to capture that dreamy, hypnotic element. Lead singer Wayne has that typically British tone with plenty of commanding...

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Here's what...
In recent days Axl Rose and Rod Stewart, two of the biggest stars entering the Hall of Fame this year, pulled out of the show, making complete reunion performances by The Faces and Guns N’ Roses impossible. Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante opted not to come, and the Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch stayed home as he continues to recover from cancer. So really, it was looking...

Sweet Home Alabama
There was a certain time in the 70s, where in the deep South of America, music was being produced that contained so much heart, soul and feeling it helped them to conquer the world. Fusing together blues, country and rock and roll, their diverse styles, from juke joint boogie and country-rock honks to cosmic blues blasts, had a huge cultural and political impact and saw the rebel rock bands take...

Halestorm - The Strange Case Of...
After hitting the music scene back in 2009 with their self titled debut album, Halestorm returned to the studio after drumming up a dedicated fanbase for a second effort.
First single Love Bites (So Do I) is a very punchy, catchy track, unfortunately the following three tracks blend in to one without any outstanding varying characteristics. The most notable change comes in the form of Beautiful...
