Aerosmith - Music From Another Dimension

After 11 years, the new album from Aerosmith has finally arrived. After all the public bickering and near split after the American Idol incident, can Music From Another Dimension live up to all it has to?

Well, I am going to begin by saying that I feel Music From Another Dimension is the bands best album in a long time, a bold statement but it throws back to the Aerosmith of yesteryear. Pulling together all the bands influences from their staggering 40 year career, it turns up the blues and is packed full of big tracks for us to get stuck into. If you came to this album looking for something fresh and new sounding, unfortunately you won’t find it, that is not to say however what you find is not worthy, because it is, very much so.

The two lead singles that preceded the album, Lover Alot and What Could Have Been Love are classic Aerosmith. The former featuring wailing guitars courtesy of Joe Perry and Brad Whitford, fast paced and full of rhythm, and the latter, the standard big and catchy we know and love from the Boston legends. Although, there are many to rival these on the record. Street Jesus has this fantastic intro which rolls into a brilliant Perry riff, and Steven Tyler’s undeniable voice makes it a stand out track. Luv XXX is another great track, familiar to 70’s Aerosmith and a perfect opener.

The album features two songs with Perry on vocals, Freedom Fighter and Something. Both led by Perry’s desire to sing, he doesn’t quite have the polished voice we get from Tyler but that makes things more interesting, and a nice change. Freedom Fighter also features backing vocals from Johnny Depp, a nice twist. Surprisingly, one of the highlights on the record for me is the duet with Carrie Underwood, Can’t Stop Loving You. A nice slowed down country-esque ballad, again an old skool feel about it. It stands out a little more amongst the other slower songs, see Another Last Goodbye

Far from a reinvention from the band, Music From Another Dimension is a great album but you get what you anticipate. Nothing more, nothing less, it is however, well worth a spin.

The albums of 2012!

Welcome to the first day of 2012!

This year looks set to be a great year for music with some of the worlds top bands releasing new albums….So we thought we’d give you a little preview of the delights to come!

Van Halen

Original Van Halen members David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen and Alex Van Halen team up with Eddie’s son Wolfgang to make their first studio album in 14 years. It is the first time the band have been together since their reunion tour in 2008, this is one of the most anticipated of 2012. Look out for a release early this year with a tour announcement to follow!

Aerosmith

The new Aerosmith album, due around May time, will apparently sound like the band ‘getting to know each other again’. After some very public personal spats in the last few years between Joe Perry and Steven Tyler, they have put their differences aside to create their first album of new material since 2001’s Just Push Play

Slash

Another of the most anticipated records of this year to come, Slash’s second solo offering looks set for release around in April. This will be the guitar legends first full length album featuring Alter Bridge front man Myles Kennedy on vocals, as well as Todd Kerns and Brent Fitz on bass and drum duties. We are very excited to hear it!

KISS

Titled Monster, the new KISS album will be unleashed upon us in the Spring. Old school, back to their roots and full of excitement, we are definitely looking forward to hearing this one. And with a possible tour to go alongside, you should be too!

Ginger

Never one to shy away from hard work, The Wildhearts front man has been locked away working on his Triple Album Project. Released in February, the 30 song epic will be be completely funded by the fans through the Pledge Music campaign which saw Ginger reach target within six hours, showing just how ready the people are!

The Darkness

After the success of their live comeback in 2011, The Darkness are back with a new album this Summer. Some new tracks were previewed during their recent tour, and if they are anything to go by then we definitely have something awesome in store for us.

Apart from all the above their is a whole host of other bands set to release new material this year, including

The Cult, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Queens of the Stone Age, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Def Leppard, Bruce Springsteen, Black Sabbath and Metallica to name just a few.

Looks like 2012 is set to be a good one!
