Mastodon - The Hunter

As you may have noticed the other day, Mastodon posted a full premiere of their new album via youtube, a whole week early. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, The Hunter is the quartet’s fifth album.

Black Tongue gets the album off to a roaring start and sets high expectations for what is to follow. First single Curl Of The Burl is second and once again doesn’t disappoint with more catchy riffs and hypnotising vocals. The next few tracks are equally as strong before title track The Hunter, which has a more solemn and psychedelic feel to it. The Creature Lives certainly has an interesting introduction with a menacing laugh accompanied by strange computer noises before fading and heading into a mellow guitar line. The pace is picked back up straight away with Spectrelight and is one of the heavier tracks on the album. The Sparrow is a calming end to the album and works well to finish on.

Overall, The Hunter is a great album and contains plenty of variety in sound.

Songs I’d Recommend: Black Tongue, Dry Bone Valley, Spectrelight.
