Newton Faulkner - Write It On Your Skin

Newton Faulkner has always been one of those artists that I can really give or take. He has a few catchy songs in his back catalogue, but he’s never really grabbed me. And this album is the same sort of deal.
Aside from one or two tracks (namely Pick Up Your Broken Heart and In The Morning), it’s upbeat, optimistic music that, if we’d had a summer this year, could have been a nice soundtrack for lying on the beach. It’s relaxing and laid back, but it occasionally crosses over to, well, bland. I found myself hoping there’d be a song that showed off the fact thathe can sing with more power, but it only really appeared in the bonus tracks, in a live version of the Hand Built By Robots song, I Need Something.
That being said, it’s very much a “glass half full” feeling album, and you DO find yourself tapping your feet to more than a few, but it never seems to be more than cheery background music to me.
