Interview: Stonerider

As the rise of that vintage rock n roll sound continues, Stonerider are playing their part in bringing back gritty, bluesy rock to the masses. We caught up with them to see how things are going since the release of their second album Fountains Left To Wake.

You’ve just released you 2nd album Fountains Left To Wake, which we love by the way, how did the writing process differ from your debut?

So glad you’re enjoying it! There really wasn’t much difference this time around, just spent lots of time in our rehearsal space hashing out ideas. It was quite a bit longer of a time period, however, and we were able to record as we wrote, so equally as the songs shaped the album, making the album shaped the songs.

You have a very vintage rock n roll sound, who are your main influences?

Inspiration and influence come in many different forms, so we’ll save all the obvious ones. Suffice to say that when you’re feelin it, you’re feelin it, ya know?

Have you any plans for any UK shows this year?

If they’ll have us, we’d love to come hang for awhile.

We’ve noticed you have a Twitter account, a Facebook and a Tumblr; do you think social network sites are key to promoting new bands?

Not the key, far from it, but they’re a part of the thing. Was gonna say that Lemmy doesn’t have a twitter, but just checked, and he does, so…

How would you describe your music in 3 words to first time listeners?

Rock. And. Roll.

What does 2012 have in store for Stonerider?

Imagine it’s gonna keep us on our toes.

Stonerider - Fountains Left To Wake

You may have seen our small feature piece on American group Stonerider; the 28th saw the release of their second album. After a blistering start to their career with glowing reviews for their debut, the future looks bright for the Southern trio.

The band go back to rock n roll basics with their vintage early 60’s sound and blues foundation in every track; Undercover is a brilliant example. Their country influences shine through in Hot Summer Nights and show another side to the groups talents, followed by a typically 60’s sounding ballad in You Don’t Even Have To Try; you could even imagine it being played at a school prom from the era! Say I Want has a seriously catchy riff and beat from the rhythm section whilst El Dorado screams Led Zeppelin influence through both the vocal style and the smooth, flowing melodies. Even their album cover takes you back to a different a age through its bold colours and faded effects. With a rock n roll base plus various elements in different tracks such as country, jazz and a touch of a psychedelia, Stonerider have plenty of strings to their bow.

Stonerider really are a breath of fresh air; especially with electronic music becoming more popular; proving that stripped back, back to basics rock n roll is still highly entertaining and relevant!

Songs I’d recommend: When I Was Young, Undercover, Say I Won’t.

Introducing…Stonerider!

Once again the Americans have got it right, this time the source is Stonerider. Heading back to rock n roll roots and that vintage sound, they are a joy to listen to. Their bluesy riffs and distorted guitar tones scream out influence from the early seventies. Matt Tanner’s unique vocals are hypnotic and add to the ambience the instrumental side of the music presents. Hailing from Atlanta, the rich sounds of the South are evident giving it that extra spark of character and depth to accompany the psychedelic element. The attention to detail in each track makes it hard to pick a favourite as they are all brilliant in their own right.

Their fan base is constantly growing with glowing reviews and enthusiasm for their music. Make sure you don’t miss out!
